Sanderson wallpaper and fabrics are some of the most coveted across the globe. This is due to the company’s long history of producing both timely and timeless prints. Known today as Sanderson Design Group, Sanderson began in 1860 under the direction of Arthur Sanderson. At the time, the company was called Arthur Sanderson & Sons. Arthur Sanderson & Sons imported French wallpapers to London, where they were instantly popular amongst British clientele. In the ensuing decades, Sanderson wallpaper and fabrics would come to define British tastes in interior design and decorating. As the years passed, Sanderson Design Group expanded. Founded shortly before Morris & Co, Sanderson eventually acquired William Morris’ wallpaper and fabric company in 1940. The company still prints original designs by Arts & Crafts Movement leader and Pre-Raphaelite William Morris. Today, Sanderson Design Group also represents Zoffany, Harlequin, Scion, Clarke & Clarke and Archive. Sanderson defines itself as a collective of these seven luxury British brands. Another delicately rendered illustration of birds and botanicals, Sanderson Clementine wallpaper is a lovely ode to nature. Eventually, chintz became so popular in England and France that both governments banned the sale of chintz to protect their national textile mills. Prized by French and English royalty, chintz fabric and wallpaper like Sanderson Clementine wallpaper remained popular until the 1950s.
